Originally by author HeYum, “The Moon That Rises In The Day” tells the story of love that spans over a thousand years, across multiple reincarnations. It revolves around a Hwarang warrior named DoHa and his wife, Han RiTa, who was a prisoner of war. They were deeply in love, but she was troubled throughout their relationship, owing to the fact that she married her enemy. She eventually ends up killing Doha, causing him to be stuck in time while she reincarnates over and over again. DoHa’s resentment towards Han RiTa causes his spirit to linger around her so that he can kill her and release his grudge. The webtoon then follows Kang YoungHwa, the 19th reincarnation of Han RiTa, who is able to see the spirit of DoHa in mirrors. When such visions disturbed her as a child, causing her to develop a phobia of mirrors, her parents took her to a shaman and gave her a talisman to make it stop. YoungHwa doesn’t seem to remember this episode as an adult but continues to have dreams where DoHa is trying to kill her. She is 24 years old at the start of the webtoon and is a university student. YoungHwa has a crush on a close family friend, Han MinOh but her feelings are unrequited. On the other hand, MinOh’s younger brother JunOh doesn’t appear to be too fond of YoungHwa either. He suffers from a fatal heart condition that takes his life in the very first episode but is revived when Doha’s spirit enters his body. Back in the original timeline, DoHa passed away at the age of 19, so when he enters the body of JunOh, he fits right into place. From then on, Doha prepares to execute his plan to kill YoungHwa so that he can move on from the mortal realm. “The Moon That Rises In The Day” boasts of an extraordinarily gorgeous art style and some of the most heart-fluttering romance ever. It will be interesting to see how this beauty translates on screen. Until then, you can read the webtoon in Korean here. At the time of writing, it has been reported that Kim YoungDae has been offered the role of the male lead, which he is positively considering. The female lead actress has not been disclosed as of yet. Kang YoungHwa is 6 years older than JunOh, and he adorably calls her “noona”. With that in mind, we picked 4 actresses who we think would be perfect for the role of Kang YoungHwa in the drama adaptation of “The Moon That Rises In The Day”. If Kim YoungDae were to take on the role of DoHa/JunHo, we think IU, Park EunBin, Go Ara, and Jung SoMin would be perfect as the female lead. Vote for the actress you think should play Kang YoungHwa in “The Moon That Rises In The Day” in our poll below! Note: The aim of the vote is for Kpopmap readers to share their opinion about their preference for the cast. It is not affecting the cast of the production team.
