“It’s Beautiful Now” premiered with a promising rating of 24.5% nationwide in South Korea. The KBS weekend drama is currently topping the ratings of Saturday-Sunday dramas. 1. The Story Line
“It’s Beautiful Now” offers a refreshing plot. The story revolves around the Lee family. A family pure at heart and filled with love. The three sons in the family are hardworking and excel at their jobs. The eldest brother, Lee YoonJae (played by Oh MinSuk), is a dentist. The second brother, Lee HyunJae (played by Yoon ShiYoon), is a lawyer, and the third brother, Lee SooJae (played by Seo BumJune) is studying to become a public officer. But the problem arises when all three show their indifference to marriage. Their mother, Han KyungAe (Kim HyeOk), is the one most worried about the matter. Joining hands with the boy’s father, Lee MinHo (Park SangWon), and grandfather, Lee KyungCheol (Park InHwan). The three deduce a plan and place an offer for the three. Claiming that whoever gets married first, will receive an apartment. Now with an apartment on the line, the three brothers are now determined to get married at all costs.
2. The Talented Cast Of “It’s Beautiful Now”
The cast of “It’s Beautiful Now” is filled with talented and promising actors. And we are loving to see them! The cast is as followed: Yoon ShiYoon as HyunJae Yoon ShiYoon is known to be the most versatile actor. The actor comes on screen every year with an entirely new character. Yoon ShiYoon plays the character Lee HyunJae in “It’s Beautiful Now”. A successful lawyer, who specializes in divorce cases. Yoon ShiYoon has starred in many leading roles like “Hit The Top” (2017), “Psychopath Diary” (2019), “Train” (2020), “You Raise Me Up” (2021) and many more. Bae DaBin as Hyun MiRae Who remembers the Tomboy character in “My ID Is Gangnam Beauty”? Bae DaBin is back on screens with another interesting character, Hyun MiRae. MiRae is a professional shopper who gets tangled in a ‘marriage mess’. And to escape it, she seeks help from HyunJae. Bae DaBin has also appeared in many dramas, including: “Arthdal Chronicles” (2019), “Do You Like Brahms?” (2020), “Love Alarm 2” (2021), the movie “Pipeline” (2021) and many more. Oh MinSuk as Lee YoonJae It’s lovely to see Oh MinSuk on screen again! He appears as Lee YoonJae, a dentist that now has his own clinic. He is turning 40 in a year and his indifference to marriage bothers everyone but him. Oh MinSuk has previously appeared in dramas: “Kill Me Heal Me” (2015), “Secrets Of Women” (2016), “Beautiful Love Beautiful Life” (2019), “Cheat On Me, If You Can” (2020) and many more. Shin DongMi as Sim HaeJoon Ha Won’s mother in “Cinderella And Four Knights” (2016) has appeared on screen again but this time as a lawyer. A beautiful lady who wishes to end her loneliness. It is till she meets Lee YoonJae that she knows that he is the one. Shin DongMin has previously also appeared in well known dramas like “She Was Pretty” (2015), “The K2” (2016), “Doctor John” (2019), “Hi! Bye, Mama” (2020), “Record Of Youth” (2020) and many more! Seo BumJune and Lee SooJae Seo BumJune made his acting debut in “Nevertheless” (2021) and continues to win hearts ever since! In “It’s Beautiful Now” he plays the character Lee SooJae, a quirky young being who is quick to take decisions. He is currently preparing for his civil exams. Seo BumJune has also starred in “Rookie Cops” (2022) and “Dr.Park’s Clinic” (2022). Choi YeBin as Na YooNa Choi YeBin is famous for her character Ha EunByul in “The Penthouse: War In Life”. The actor now appears in “It’s Beautiful Now” as Ne YooNa, a young girl passionate about achieving her dreams. Ne YooNa works in a part-time job with SooJae and she wishes to have a career as a baker. Park InHwan as Park KyungCheol Already the viewers’ favorite since “Navillera” (2021), Park InHwan continues to delight our hearts as a sweet grandfather in “It’s Beautiful Now” (2022). He is a man with a pure heart, and is extremely loved by his family (and by the viewers’ too)!
3. A Family-Oriented Drama
KBS provides their viewers with another warm family-oriented drama. The drama does not merely focus on building a romance story for the Lee brothers, but rather on each and every character. And all family members make a major contribution to the story. The drama focuses on the beauty of every relationship and the traditional family system in Korea. The family members also get a fair screen time or scenes. Considering the Lee family. We often get a peek into the father’s, Lee MinHo, thoughts when he is writing his diary. In episode 3, MinHo even mentions how every elder has a favorite among the three and then proceed with scenes displaying so. Similarly, Hyun MiRae’s family is introduced in detail. Hyun MiRae’s story begins with how she was conned into marriage and now wants divorce. Other than having scenes of her and her mother regarding the matter. There are also scenes between their parents, where their relationship was also defined to be still romantic. Even her brother, JungHu (played by Kim KangMin), has a separate story line where he has to inspect one of the shops under his company.
4.“It’s Beautiful Now” Highlights Societal Pressure And Marriage
The drama highlights an important aspect of the concept of marriage. Marriage holds great importance in Asian Culture (Korea included), and more than that marriage on the ‘right time’. In the drama, the grandfather, Lee KyungCheol, gives a portion to his sister in the house. Where she lives with her own family. In episode 4, she brags about having great grandchildren and raises the fact that none of Lee KyungCheol’s grandchildren are married. To be more concerning, the eldest has reached 40 (even though he was 39). This makes the grandfather feel embarrassed. Similarly, in episode 1, when their mother KyungAe visits a wedding with her friends, the ladies are surprised and even concerned about the situation. Urging her to have her sons married as soon as possible. Whilst that is one case, we move on to MiRae’s situation. The young lady signs the marriage certificate out of passion. But it all is ruined when she finds out that her so-called husband, in fact, is the father of a child, one from her ex in the US. Soon, finding out why she was betrayed by him, he reveals that he had to be married to attain property from his mother. Hence, the drama also shows consequences of such pressure.
