KiHyun has nurtured this album with all his creative genius and it shows with every single element: from the genres to the musical storytelling, all brought together by a rare coherence ringing through the lyrics, we are mere companions on KiHyun’s artistic journey. With positing ‘Voyager’ as the title song, KiHyun is presenting the persona of an adventurer, fearless and proud. However, ‘, (Comma)’ and ‘Rain’ are soft and soaked in pain, as if emerging from a secret hideaway yet veiled in strong, impactful sounds. In the music video for ‘Voyager’, KiHyun echoes the spirit of a rockstar with his unrestrained vocals and liberating lyrics. He is the master of his destiny, confident in his ability to command his fate. After all, this is KiHyun’s world and we’re just living in it. The possibilities are endless with ‘Voyager’ as your background score and needless to say, KiHyun is the main character. In a sense, ‘Voyager’ feels like the grand declaration of KiHyun’s quest to conquer the world of music, and needless to say, he’s off to an incredible start.
‘, (Comma)’ has a confessional tinge as KiHyun journals the chiaroscuro of fame. The brighter he shines, the longer his shadow gets, growing to the point of overpowering him. KiHyun pleads with his own ego to allow himself to rest, breathe, restore while his paradise constantly evades him like a chimera. Musically, ‘, (Comma)’ is a guitar-heavy 90’s style pop-rock track with a powerful bassline and booming vocals that oscillate between gentle and soothing to orotund and resounding. KiHyun’s vocal control is truly worth high praise.
Finally, ‘Rain’ is a cry for help that concludes “Voyager” on a note of vulnerability as opposed to the invincible aura of the title track. KiHyun is belting notes like an angel from above, boasting his baritone just as brilliantly as his high notes. ‘Rain’ is the culmination of KiHyun’s personal musicality and just the beginning of his saga. We cannot wait to see what KiHyun has in store for us next. What is your favourite song from “Voyager”? Share your thoughts with Kpopmap in the comments section down below!
